Dixons roundup support of British Lung Foundation
11th January 2019
In January 2017, Dixons staff nominated the British Lung Foundation to become one of our company charities. Our Customer Care Advisor Noelle Watterson explains why she nominated the British Lung Foundation:
"My mum (Isobel) was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in October 2009. She had developed a persistent cough, so she decided to visit her GP. Following tests at a local hospital the diagnosis of IPF was made and Mum was given between 2 and 10 years to live. The main aim of treatment is to relieve the symptoms as much as possible and slow down its progression. Sadly, my Mum passed away in June 2011, only 20 months following her diagnosis. I nominated the British Lung Foundation as my chosen charity as there is currently a lack of research and funding for IPF."
Throughout the two years, we carried out many fundraising activities for the British Lung Foundation. Continuing the annual Dixons tradition, we had 3 relay teams fund raising then running the 2017 Belfast City Marathon along with our Business Development Manager Eleanor Forrest Reid, who ran the full course in a brilliant 3 hours and 32 minutes. Our team raised a fantastic total of £1,577.50 for the British Lung Foundation.
Our Marketing Co-ordinator led a team who organised a charity lunch for the British Lung Foundation before the construction holidays in July 2018. We raised a fantastic total of £700 with help from our sponsors who so generously donated great prizes for the raffle.
Following a successful Shed for Santa programme last year, 15 Dixons employees took part in the 2018 fun weight loss challenge whilst raising money for the British Lung Foundation. Over the 8 weeks our staff shed a combined total weight of 95lbs and raised £150.
Over the last 2 years we are delighted to have raised a grand total of £2,427.50 for this fantastic charity. We would like to thank all our employees, sub-contractors and supply chain for their extremely generous donations towards the BLF!
