Dixons keep Mates in Mind
22nd November 2018
Following on from our management team training, we recently put 20 of our team through Mates in Mind Mental Health Awareness training at the CITB Mobile Training Unit in Antrim. The aim of the training is to raise awareness of mental ill-health and to help our team recognise the signs of mental health problems.
Construction workers are six times more likely to die from suicide than falls from height. Another shocking mental health statistic is that male construction site workers are three times more likely to commit suicide than the average UK male.
Both our company and members of our team have been directly and personally impacted by suicide and so we recognise the importance to raise awareness of mental health issues, help change mindsets and encourage them to act if they notice a change in a friend, colleague or family member.
Mates in Mind have been working in partnership with CITB NI and the Workplace Health Leadership Group NI to deliver this excellent mental health initiative.
The Executive Director of Mates in Mind, Joscelyne Shaw, said: "This initiative marks an important step for Northern Ireland's construction sector as it looks to tackle the stigma associated with poor mental health."
